Collins retires

I hope everyone had a lovely Labor Day. I blew my back out cutting the grass on Saturday, so I haven’t done too much. I did see a bit of exciting news the other day though. Long time NHL Linesman Kevin Collins has called it a career after 20 some odd years, and countless fights stopped.

For those of you not familiar with Kevin Collins, he is notorious for getting between two guys before fists can ever be thrown. If I were a Linesman, I would take a back seat until the boys tired themselves out, and then jump in. Not old KC. This guy loved jumping in before the boys can ever settle their differences. I find it truly amazing he never seriously hurt himself with his brazen ways. Maybe this is a sign that fighting will be way down? With no fights to stop unnecessarliy, what would Kevin have to do?

Turn out the Lights

Finally the Bruins have gotten on the board with a fight last night in Chicago. Nice work by Gregory Campbell to try to spark the boys. Not much of a scrap, but good on Soupy to get it started. We are now 9 games into the NHL season, and there has been a total of 1 fight. One. Uno. That's not a lot. It was a decent scrap in yesterday afternoon's contest between LA's Kyle Clifford, and the Rangers Brandon Prust. Michael P. Russell 1975-2011

Well, I hate to do it again with the bad news about a hockey player dying, but here we go. An old friend of mine from way back in the day was killed in a car accident last Saturday night. Of all the deaths over this summer, the death of Mike Russell hits the hardest. Mike was 36, had a wife and 2 kids, and was my best friend growing up. He will be missed.
