I am predicting an all WHA final. The New England Whalers will face off against the Edmonton Oilers for Lord Stanley’s Cup. The Canes had a rough go of it tonight in Buffalo, but the Oil is cruising out West. Did you see last night’s tilt? Three fights!? Are you kidding me! Laraque had two with "The Fridge". They weren’t anything special, but it was cool to see that kind of old time hockey seeping out in Edmonton. I like The Oil to win the whole thing. I just don’t think anyone can hang with them physically, and the Rexall fans are good for at least one win.
Speaking of seeping. Two parts of Goonblog (Me, and the Hammer) are heading to Indianapolis this weekend for the Indianapolis 500. For me, this will be year 10. I think Hammer is around 14 or 15. Every year we drink way too much, eat too much, and annoy the hell out of the locals with our all Pats all the time talk. As such, I won’t have any means to post for a few days. I mean, they have a computer there, but seriously, I wouldn’t be able to turn it on if you gave me Georges Laraque’s contract in exchange for the entire Boston roster. It’s just not going to happen. Having said that, I promise a boozy recap upon my return. Everyone have a safe and fun Memorial Day weekend. Don’t forget to take a second and remember what we are celebrating too!

Yes, It’ll be the first all WHA Stanley Cup Final. But if you really want to trace the roots of the teams it’s the Alberta Oilers versus the New England Whalers.
Chris
You are correct. I should have caught that before. My bad.

Yes!It will be an all WHA final for the Stanley Cup.If Hartford wins, they will become the second team to have an Avco and Stanley Cup.Quebec-Colorado was the first.Winnipeg-Phoenix is the only other eligible team to accomplish this task.Alberta/Edmonton never won the Avco Cup.I would love to see a hockey reporter have some testicles and write about the history of these two teams tracing their roots back to the WHA start.I am a former WHA employee.Thanks.
Chris
That is great info Greg! I would love to get a New England Whalers jersey. Any idea where I could find one?
greg
Chris,I believe the only way is by using GOOGLE and asking for New England Whaler jerseys or Ebay. There are a number of great places out there for vintage jerseys.I know I used to deal with many shops in Canada that could be selling these.I actually like the Whalers jersey with the harpoon the best. When I worked for the Cleveland Crusaders,I probably could have had game worn jerseys for free, but I guess I had no foresight. The WHA was great for hockey and hockey fans.We put to rest most of the “dinosaurs” who were running the NHL.I guess Chicago still has the Wirtz(worst) family to deal with, but they still don’t believe that Bobby Hull jumped to the WHA in 1972.They will never win anything.Greg

Chris, Try River City Sports (www.rivercitysports.com) for vintage and minor pro jerseys. I used to buy our team jerseys from them. Good people and very accommidating.
