I don’t get it. Seriously, if I am being a homer, please tell me. Shawn Thornton and Georges Laraque had a very spirited dust up the other night in Montreal. As an aside, I think we will see much more of this in the season upcoming. Anyway, I have now watched the fight probably 50 times. I am scoring it as a win for Thornton, hands down, but a lot of my fight friends and other fight websites have it as a draw or a win Laraque. WTF? Am I scoring improperly?
I give it to Thornton for the 5 very hard right hands he lands on Laraque. Big Georges gets a couple off after the takedown from Thornton at the beginning, but it doesn’t look like they land cleanly. Then Thornton gets in 4 hard rights, and executes a nice under-over move and lands his 5th hard right hand to Larague’s dome. That’s when they get tied up, and Laraque gets in about 7 shots to the license plate before, and while they are bent over the dasher. To me it also looks like Thornton gets in another shot while on the boards. Maybe it’s me. Maybe I’m a crazy person, but I have it scored a clear win for Boston’s Shawn Thornton. I have posted the scrap below, and I want comments. Seriously, if I’m being a homer and you think I’m wronglet me know. If you’re with me on this, let me know. Either way, looks like this rivalry is back eh?
Red Thunder
Clicked on the video and got A message that the video is no longer available…Fortunatly for me, where we moved to has cable set up (one of very few advantages of city life) so I will be able to watch some hockey this year. And I did catch the game, and the fight.
I know… I cant believe it either.
But anyway, I would have to go with A draw on that. I agree Thornton had more fists, and good ones I’ll add. But we all know the theory of probability, I think another 10 seconds might have had old Thor kissing the ice. He was almost bent over doggy style at the end, He really could have been fucked. So I would have to go with A draw, and if that makes ME A homer… well then
MMMMM BEER!
The Ref
Thornton grabbed him by the scruff, slammed him to the ice and set a great tone for the rest of the game. Yes, the rivalry is back – and more importantly Georges isn’t going to be allowed to shift into any less of a goon role with the Habs.

I’ve discussed this briefly with you already, and after watching the fight a few times, I’m inclined to lean Thortons way, and as for Red Thunder’s comment about doggy style… what about when Laraque was on his knees? I think Thorton A) showed class by letting him back to his feet and B) grit for pounding it out with a guy everyone seems to be too pussy to fight. They both landed some good shots, Thorton took it to him, and he definetly gets the nod.
Chris Nadeau
I would have to disagree…yes Thornton threw him down at the start but when George got up Thornton held on for dear life and wouldn’t let go and trade punches. Therefore that is why George had to keep pounding him in the back of the head. Overall it was really a bad tilt.
Chris
Chris, Are you watching the same fight? When they get up, Thornton throws 5 punches, while Laraque throws 5 of his own. He gets Thornton turned around and off balance. I think that’s where Thornton is hanging on. I score zero points for the take down. Again, maybe I am being a homer, but I think Thornton won that fight. Either way, to say he held on for dear life is not accurate. Thanks for stopping by. We welcome any and all discussion here!
