In about 11 hours, the hibernation ends. That’s right; the beloved Boston Bruins are skating back onto the ice tonight at 7 PM against the dreaded Washington Capitals. Boston and Washington will both come into tonight’s opener with the weight of huge expectations on their shoulders after both lost out in the second round of the playoffs last season. That is the past; I am in need of the old math book right now, as it’s finally here! Hockey season is FINALLY here!
Tonight should be a dandy. Ginger and Cindy are winging their way in from Washington right now, and I will be meeting them at the Garden at 2ish. MOL will follow at 4ish, then the group will be complete, and the mischief can begin. Two seasons ago, MOL and I visited our Nation’s Capitol and took in a Caps game against Atlanta with Ginger and Cindy. It was a lovely time, except for Ginger spilling a whole giant beer on herself! Tonight will be a night of good natured ribbing, and a great hockey game.
The Capitals have a couple of guys that can go. Gone is Donald Brashear, but Matt Bradley, and John Erskine are still on the roster. Milan Lucic gave Bradley a sound beating two seasons ago right off the opening faceoff as pay back for Washington soundly thrashing the Bruins like 10-1 or something earlier in the week. Lucic has also lost to Erskine, so those two could hook up again. Shawn Thornton has looked more than willing to drop em in the pre season as well, so look for him to get in the mix too. I know I say this a lot, but I am as giddy as a little girl right now! Go Bruins!
Greg
I feel like Steve Carell calling the Viagra people about having an erection lasting more than four hours. I didn’t take any Viagra, but I’ve had a chubby for three days in anticipation for this game!
Chris
LOL. I bet it’s gone now. Bad showing by the black and gold last night, although Shawn Thornton continues to impress.
Greg
I have to say I’m not concerned Chris, it’s game one, these lines have did not really play together to much in the preseason. Things I did like, Krecji was all over the puck after not playing in the preseason, Morris and Begin both showed decently and also showed they weren’t afraid to hit. These guys will find the night, it took them two weeks last year to gel, I don’t think it will be any different this year.
Chris
Nail on the head Greg. Bergie is back for sure, and they Bruins were out shot 2-1. Can’t win hockey games like that.
Greg
They gelled a whole lot sooner than I thought Chris, last nights game was a great one, reminded me of the Dallas game last year which I thought was a turning point for them. I’ve got one question for you, why do people think it’s a good idea to start with Lucic and Thornton? Both of them looked like gold glovers last night. I also was really impressed with Savvy goin after Alberts on that high cross on Sturm. Very happy with the way they look, great passing, great tenacity. It’s gonna be a good season.
Chris
Agreed Greg, and when I get some time tonight, I will have a post addressing the very questions you asked, so stay tuned. As for Savvy, and Alberts. How in the world does Alberts get a crosschecking out of that, and Boston gets the extra minor? Baffling.
