I went to get a coffee at 3 today with 3 ladies from my office. They were talking about girl stuff as I was trying to listen to Home Ice on XM. I caught the tail end of where Gordie Dwyer had been invited to Camp. I cranked up the radio to hear what I knew. Gordie spent the last two years in Lowell. His best season in the NHL was with Montreal where he scored six goals. Big whoop. Where was he going?
It was 3, and I had nothing to do. I called Tweener. Where was Gordie going? No idea. I looked everywhere, and I finally found the info. Gordie has been invited to attend Canucks Camp next month. I found it on a forum that was pretty critical of Dwyer, and of the whole Canucks’ organization for the signing. Apparently Gordie played Junior for new Canuck Bench Boss Alain Vigneault, and from what it looks like Vigneault wants to give him a shot. Plus with Wade Broobank gone, they need someone in Vancouver to do some heavy lifting.
I have said several times on this forum, there isn’t a more approachable person on Earth than a Pro Hockey player. Among the nicest, and most approachable, is Mr. Gordie Dwyer. Anytime you see Gordie he always stops and talks hockey, snowmobiling, or anything. He is a class act, and a guy I would love to see stick at the NHL level. I am not going to say if I think he will or won’t, or bash the Canucks for signing him or anything of that nature. I will say again, I hope Gordie makes it, and at the very least, I hope he can be successful if he is signed and sent down to Manitoba. From what I have seen of him in Lowell the past couple of years, he is a guy that still has a great passion for the game, and when healthy, plays full tilt.
I think the situation in Lowell was one where he didn’t want to be the only guy doing the heavy lifting. Hopefully for Canuck, and Moose fans, they get to see a rejuvenated Gordie Dwyer. Good luck Gordie. If you are still with the Canucks December 21, the Goonsquad will be at the Garden to cheer you on.

You…with three chicks from the office?? They lookin’ for someone to buy a round of latte’s,or what ?? Can’t think of any other reason !!
I second everything that you said about Gordie. Great guy, always willing to tell the truth about the “game”, and how it’s played. I’ll miss him in Lowell, but wish him the best no matter where he winds up.
Chris
We were the only decent items in there.
I agree Tweener. I hope to cross paths again with Gordie.
The Ref
I met Dwyer ‘backstage’ when I went to an LM game this year with Chris, and he was a diamond geezer. As we were driving back to the city, we noticed Gordie was driving the SUV in front of us at a stoplight. I think we almost followed him to see if he was hitting a bar, but decided that would border on psychotic. We went to the Sports Grille in North Station instead. Poppers. Yum.
Chris
Tasty Buddy.
Kim
I went to high school with Gordie in Richmond, QC Canada. I haven’t had any contact with him in years, but he was a really nice guy and was liked by everyone. I hope that things work out for him.
Chris
Well said Kim. I am pulling for him.

Nice pic of Gordie getting decked.

Dwyer released yesterday. Hopefully someone picks him up.

I was fortunate to play golf at royal oaks in moncton, with Gordie. There was 4 of us playing in a Ted Nowlan fund raiser Sept.20,2007.You know that my friends and me are just working stiffs, If you could walk along with us you would never know who were the working stiffs and who was the N.H.Ler. We laughed at some of the stories Gordie told us and he laughed at some of the stories we told him,I would like to tell the hockey world that Gordie is a credit to hockey and just a nice guy. Never did he say a bad comment about anyone , and he luves the game. Thanks a lot Gordie for the golf lessons you gave us and we will be looking for you on the ice. Your friends from moncton
Chris
Thanks for the story Terry. I agree. Gordie is a super nice guy. I wish him well with the Islanders.
